Frequently asked questions.

Shhh | Baby Sleep App - FAQ.

Are you looking for answers to your questions about the baby sleep app Shhh? Here, we have provided a list of the most frequently asked questions and their answers.

How loud should I play sounds from Shhh?

We suggest starting with the volume loud enough to catch your baby's attention. Use common sense and see how your baby reacts to different audio volumes. Once your baby has fallen asleep, you can lower than volume throughout the nap.

Background noise in the womb is about 85 to 95 dB. So newborns can tolerate the 95 dB of background noise they experience in utero. For example, a lawn mower produces 90 decibels of sound volume, and so does a hair dryer, a blender, or a vacuum cleaner.

Where sound I place Shhh?

If your baby is crying, you will want to ensure that your device is close enough and loud enough to hear the sound above their cry. Please use common sense. Once your baby has settled, we suggest placing your device around 3 feet (1 meter) from the crib.

If the environment in the room is particularly noisy, we recommend moving the device closer to the crib or using a Bluetooth or AirPlay speaker to help mask extraneous sounds.

What kind of sound device should I use when using Shhh?

All sounds In Shhh are designed to have a calming effect on your baby. It is totally fine to use your phone as a playback device, but some sounds might sound a bit too harsh due to your devises disability to produce bass frequencies.

To ensure the most relaxing experience for your baby, we recommend using a small speaker connected to your devices, like a small Bluetooth or AirPlay speaker.

For how long can I play a sound with Shhh?

As long as you need. All sleep sounds and lullabies play in a continuous loop as a default setting. If your baby only needs a short nap, you can adjust the playback time inside the audio player by drawing the slider to the right.

This sets the playback time to 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, 1h, 2h, 4h, 6h, and 8h.

Shhh, get interrupted by incoming calls. What to do?

If you're using Shhh to help your baby sleep, simply turning on airplane mode or "do not disturb" mode will ensure that your phone won't ring or vibrate and that the app won't be interrupted. This can be a lifesaver for parents trying to get their babies to sleep through the night with Shhh | Baby Sleep App.

For how long sound a newborn sleep?

The National Institutes of Health recommend that newborns sleep about 14 to 17 hours daily. Newborn babies need a lot of sleep. In fact, they usually sleep for 16 to 18 hours each day. However, this sleep is not always continuous.

What exactly is white noise?

White noise is a sound that is produced when all the frequencies of audible sound are combined together. The term "white" refers to the fact that the noise is evenly distributed across all frequencies. White noise is often used to block out other sounds, as it can be very effective at masking background noise.

White noise is a continuous, uniform sound that can mask other sounds. It's often used to help people and newborns sleep because it can block out disruptive noises and make it easier to fall asleep. White noise will also help babies sleep by creating a calming environment.

What exactly is brown noise?

Brown noise is a specific mix of many sound frequencies that is deeper and lower in pitch than white noise. It's often described as similar to the soothing sound of a rushing waterfall or heavy rainfall. You can call it mother natures own sleep machine, it sounds softer than white noise and is a good alternative to try if white noise doesn't calm your baby.

Brown noise, a low, rumbly sound reminiscent of ocean waves or a thunderstorm, has been found to have a calming effect on babies. It's important to note the difference between brown and white noise - while both are commonly used for soothing infants, white noise is more of a pure high tone and can actually be too stimulating for babies.
